The 2-Factor strong authentication solution is based on a time limited One Time Password [OTP] coupled with a PIN [Personal Identification Number]. The primary difference between a 2-Factor strong authentication and 2.5-Factor strong authentications is the PIN position associated with the token. The traditional hard token [and also soft token] based 2-Factor authentication platform includes a 4 digit PIN followed by 6 digit OTP.
IBA pioneered the 2.5-Factor strong authentication solution. In a 2.5-Factor strong authentication solution, the PIN position is variable thereby further improving the security of the authentication service. Additionally, in a 2.5-Factor soft token based strong authentication solution, the PIN and the OTP can be of variable length.
Our strong authentication solution is based on IBA's core "soft token" based authentication platform; the platform is capable of delivering 2-Factor strong authentication, 2.5-Factor strong authentication or a combination of both.
The choice of 2-Factor versus 2.5-Factor strong authentication or a hybrid 2 and 2.5-Factor strong is based on the Enterprise users profile.
